French photographer Chantal Stoman was invited to Cambodia for an artist-in-residence programme in 2016. She spent her time there wandering around Phnom Penh, letting the new sensations of the capital city overwhelm her.

This photobook recollects her experience, allowing us to imagine ourselves strolling through the city’s streets. Moreover, it offers a testimony of an identity. As Stoman writes in her foreword, “With these images, I mostly wanted to render the sense of pride and emotion of ordinary people”.

The unique charm of Phnom Penh derives from a feeling where past and present collide, captured in Stoman’s casual, black-and-white street photography.
